Strengthening Environmental Governance Frameworks in Local Administration Programs for the Central Region Governorates in Jordan<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The National Center for Environmental Justice (NCEJ<\/a>) completed the project \u201cStrengthening Environmental Governance Frameworks in Local Administration Programs for the Central Region Governorates in Jordan\u201d funded by the International Republican Institute (IRI<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project included three phases, in which a total of 138 members of provincial councils in the central region (the capital, Zarqa, Madaba, and Balqa) participated.
The first phase focused on \u201cOpportunities and Challenges for the Governorate Councils in the Governorates of the Central Region.\u201d Members of the former provincial council from the central region (Al-Asimah, Zarqa, Madaba, and Al-Balqa) participated in this stage, with a total of 68 members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for the second stage, it was about \u201chow to include environmental and development issues in electoral programs.\u201d It was presented through a practical training with reference to the training manual prepared in the previous stage, on how to include the environmental and development dimension in the electoral programs, and 57 members of the councils of the central region (the capital, Zarqa, Madaba, Balqa) participated in this stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for the third phase, it was entitled \u201cStrategic Planning to Incorporate Environmental and Development Projects into Local Administration Work Programs,\u201d which aimed to raise the skills of provincial council members in the central region in integrating the development and environmental dimension into the strategic plans of their councils. Each of the members of the central region\u2019s governorates participated ( Capital, Zarqa, Madaba, Balqa) with a total of 59 members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These workshops are part of the NCEJ’s plan to highlight the importance of the environment, the laws that govern their application, and how to raise awareness of those who can be part of the change towards a better understanding of challenges and solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
