The National Center for Environmental Justice launches the “Environmental Legal Aid” program

The National Center for Environmental Justice launched the “Environmental Legal Assistance” program to enable and develop the capacity of national institutions, including associations, civil society institutions, lawyers’ offices, legal aid and environmental impact assessment center’s wishing to participate to benefit from the opportunity to obtain the services provided by the National Center for Environmental Justice.

The program is one of the center’s products, and it aims to open the door to achieving environmental justice and to enable and achieve equitable access for all individuals to environmental justice. The center is looking for local partners with good access and extension within local communities, specifically those that are exposed to the infringement of the rights of water, environment, natural resources, and agriculture.

This program is considered an empowering window, as the NCEJ allocates part of its budget and resources to local partners, who will be considered as liaison officers for the National Center in those communities, and includes technical support services in accessing grants and funding, bearing the cost of web hosting and part of the media budget. It also provides monthly or annual financial support determined according to the activities of the liaison officers, bonuses determined according to the extent of their influence on the local community, public relations services and linking partners with official, donor and media agencies.

On the importance of this program, Dr. Mohammad Eyadat, head of the National Center for Environmental Justice, said that the center’s mission is based on awareness of rights and spreading the thought of justice. Therefore, the program targets all rural areas, desert areas, agricultural areas or cities within the Kingdom, and priority is given to areas that suffer from environmental, climatic and agricultural challenges. and water, or those resulting from weak environmental legal representation, or those experiencing pressure on resources due to the Syrian refugee crisis, water scarcity, or other national challenges.
